Happy New Year Everyone!!
Here are a couple photos I wanted to share from my time at Dockside Studios, October 2013. I went down there to record my latest album…not sure how many of you know about how this works so I decided to take some time and spill it.
First, I decided back in April to raise money to produce an album. I’ve only recorded a 5 song EP and an acoustic album before and I couldn’t afford to invest in a full length album for my project. I turned to Kickstarter to ask friends, family and fans to reach into their pockets and donate whatever amount they could in exchange for different packages of goodies. Long story short, I was able to raise $17,341 in 25 days. Woo hooo!! Alright..next step, music!
Like any songwriter, I had a lot of songs to choose from…I had to narrow it down to my top 20 or so. Next step, PRODUCER. Alright, this is a challenge as there are many questions you have to ask yourself. What style production do I want, what types of musicians do I want on the record, who have they worked with in the past, are they reliable, are they willing to work at this budget, can they work within a certain time frame, etc. With my friend Radney Foster’s help, I found Justin Tocket. He helped pick out the songs for the record, choose the right musicians for the style of music I wanted, picked the studio, all that fun stuff.
Needless to say, Justin and I hit it off and we made a cool record that I’m proud of!! Any fan of Radney Foster’s, check out the duet I sing with him “What Are You Doing On My Mind”!~
